Cuban Romance Habano Toro 6x52 (Reviewed on May 25, 2025)

Wrapper: Habano
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan

Presentation:
The Cuban Romance Habano Toro is a very pretty cigar with a rustic leathery tan color Nicaraguan Habano wrapper with just a hint of oil on the surface. It feels light in the hand but firmly rolled with no soft spots or sponginess. The main band has the brand’s logo on a glossy blue background, contrasted against an ornate embossed gold background. The secondary band is similarly ornate with the name Cuban Romance on it. This cigar had about 8 weeks of rest un-cellophaned in 67% humidity.

Pre light bouquet of baking spice and fresh cut wood.

The cigar begins mild to medium with a crisp clean taste of dry chardonnay, with a hint of sweetness and cream on the finish. The burn line is a bit wavy but does not veer into a run that needs to be corrected, and the draw is impeccable producing voluminous thick white smoke.

The second third moves solidly into medium+ territory, while creamy notes become more pronounced with flavors of walnut and some interplay of sweetness and spice on the finish. The burn line remains slightly wavy, and the draw remains impeccable. The draw is so easy that I have to slow my roll a bit as I am a fast smoker and want this cigar to last a bit longer. I removed the bands, and they are simply gorgeous, I don’t think my camera can do it justice. While I am not someone who cares much about cigar labels, I can appreciate it when the band is beautiful, abstract and well thought out, without being ostentatious.

The last third builds the medium plus into full bodied, and billowy smoke is rich with aromas of oak and leather. Spice is much more pronounced while maintaining a core of cream, and dark chocolate notes. While there is no harshness, I can feel the nicotine hitting me – the build towards a full-bodied smoke was a pleasant surprise as I was expecting a mild to medium smoke. This is an excellent cigar that is also affordable - highly recommended.

With an inch and half left, I am going to call it quits and get me some dinner. I cannot wait to try the Cuban Romance Maduro, to see how the blend works with a maduro wrapper.

I paired the Cuban Romance Habano Toro with unsweetened black brewed coffee and water.

92 out of 100

I received nothing in exchange for this unsolicited review – but thoughts on great, under-the-radar cigars that are truly small batch need to be shared with fellow smokers.
